Quit like a Yogi

How about this month we focus on cultivating the kind of life we don’t need to escape from? You in?

By escape, I mean those things we turn to that we know are not good for us because we ‘deserve a break’, ‘need a treat’, ‘worked so hard’, or whatever it is we tell ourselves so that we justifiably indulge in something that will make us feel bad later.

Even when things are good, and we’re happy, we’ll turn it all around and indulge in things we know aren’t good for us because ‘Why the hell not? ‘Life is to be celebrated’. We’re a bit perverse and complex like that aren’t we?

But that’s ok.

We’re also incredible creatures of habit, which means, with a few adjustments we can kick bad habits, take on some new ones and see how that allows us to explore the richness and depth of the life we have; a life where we don’t feel the need to escape from.

As you’re reading this you probably already know at least one thing in your life you could stop doing that would free up more time, more energy, and more resource, so I probably don’t need to give you some examples.

But in case you think you’re living your best life and are unaware of things (often designed exactly for the purpose of taking your attention, time, energy and resources) potentially holding you back from an even deeper experience of life; here is a list. (not exhaustive)

Just a note before reading this: None of these things are inherently bad (ok maybe some) but mostly it’s about asking yourself honestly, is this thing getting in the way of my life?

Alcohol, Social Media, Work, Sugar, Netflix (or similar), The News, Co-dependent Relationships, Overeating, Not Eating, Caffeine, Shopping, Sex, Negative Thinking, Gossip, High intensity Sports, Extreme Sports… you get the idea.

This is not meant to come off as a lecture, or to be seen as something burdensome. Quite the opposite. This is about freedom. This is about discovery, experimentation and going on a journey.

It’s also about not doing it entirely alone.

So this month we’ll be looking at some really cool tricks and tools to help you quit that thing that’s keeping you from your life. There cannot be enough said about a morning routine and how you start your day. There is also an incredible amount of research that shows the effectiveness of meditation (and yoga) which you’ll find as a vital component in almost every single recovery program.

Here at The Conscious Lab we have you covered. We’re here to help you replace self-defeating, energy draining habits with life affirming, energising, expansive ones. The only danger is that you’ll start to become one of those annoyingly healthy, happy and enthusiastic sorts. But we have your back there too; there’s always just enough cynicism in our Lab to keep you grounded and likeable :-)

This is an invitation to join us this month as we go on a journey together. Expect to be surprised (Pleasantly), Expect a rather deep rabbit hole (Metaphorically speaking) and feel free to share your experiences quietly via email (always read and welcome) or in our LIVE community Q & A session on Tuesday the 5th October — theconsciouslab.com
